Wanted: 10 councillors, seven parks commissioners, nine school board trustees, and one mayor.

If you think you have what it takes to become one of Vancouver's 27 elected officials, it's time to get started on the paperwork. Today (July 16) the city officially made applications available ahead of this October's civic election.

"Nomination packages are now available for citizens planning to run in the October municipal election," reads a June 16 media release.

"To become an official candidate, citizens must complete and successfully submit their  nomination forms during the nomination period in September," it continues. "The Election Office will receive nomination forms by appointment only during this period: Tuesday September 4, at 9am to Friday September 14 at 4pm."

The requirements to participate as a candidate in a Vancouver election are pretty standard. One must be a Canadian citizen, B.C. resident, and at least 18 years of age. There are a few ways one can find themselves disqualified from holding elected office. Those are set out in Section 38 of the Vancouver Charter.

Application packages are available at vancouver.ca/vote.

If one want to run for office and have a question, city staff are available with answers at Vancouver's Election Office, located at 450 West Broadway. Until the election in October, their hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
