After assault on elderly man, Burnaby RCMP searching for teenage male suspect

      Burnaby RCMP announced today (July 17) that they are searching for a male teenager after an attack that left an elderly man with serious injuries.

      After 9 p.m. on July 15, RCMP received a report that an elderly man was assaulted on a path close to 5889 Patterson Avenue in Burnaby's Central Park.

      He was taken to hospital with injuries that were initially thought to be minor but have since proven to be potentially life-altering, according to police.

      Witnesses reported seeing a young male in the area around the time of the assault and is a person of interest to the police.

      He is described as non-white male who is about five-feet, nine-inches with a slim build. Witnesses estimated he is between 14 and 18 years of age.

      He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, white shoes, and possibly a red cap, and had been last seen running off in the direction of Patterson SkyTrain Station.
