Update (July 19): Coquitlam RCMP announced that the body of the swimmer has been located.

RCMP are searching for a swimmer who has gone missing in a lake in northeastern Metro Vancouver.

Coquitlam RCMP received a call around 4:30 p.m. on July 17 about a 19-year-old Surrey man who was swimming in Buntzen Lake with several friends but had disappeared. Buntzen Lake is located in Anmore, northwest of Coquitlam in the Metro Vancouver area.

The lake is closed as police are searching for him. According to a Coquitlam RCMP news release, there is no evidence of foul play.

Coquitlam Search and Rescue responded by searching the water and shoreline for the missing swimmer with 20 team members and two boats.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was called in to conduct an underwater search and the case is now a missing person file.

Meanwhile in an unrelated case in the B.C. Interior, CBC News reported that RCMP received a call on July 16 about a missing swimmer in Mara Lake near Sicamous, B.C.

A 26-year-old Edmonton man had disappeared after responding to calls for help from another male swimmer in the lake.

The swimmer who was in distress managed to make it to shore but the man who went in to help him did not.

RCMP located his body on July 16 and the case has been turned over the B.C. Coroners Service. His name has not yet been released.
