Anyone travelling near the Pattullo Bridge can't miss huge dark smoke rising up nearby.

A barge on the Fraser River has caught fire, sending plumes and flames high into the air.

News 1130 Air Patrol's Darren Grieve estimated that the smoke has risen 2,500 feet, which is blowing to the north and east.

Grieve said it looks like the barge is carrying crushed cars, which might account for the foul smell emanating from the blaze.
