For the second time in the past few months, a man has drowned at Buntzen Lake in Anmore, B.C., located north of Port Moody and Coquitlam.

A 47-year-old man from Burnaby, who was a non-swimmer, was with his family in the water on August 14. He vanished beneath the surface around 4 p.m.

Coquitlam RCMP reported today (August 15) that the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team recovered his body.

RCMP cautioned anyone entering the waters of Buntzen Lake to take precautions and be aware of its hazards.

"Buntzen Lake is a great place to cool off in hot weather, but it has steep drop-offs just metres from the shoreline," Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin stated in a news release.

This fatality follows another drowning that occurred at the lake on July 17 when a 19-year-old male from Surrey disappeared while swimming with friends. After a search conducted by RCMP, the swimmer's body was located around 100 metres from shore on July 18.
