While a home invasion occurred in Coquitlam yesterday, a different type of breaking-and-entering has been recently taking place in North Vancouver.

Thefts have taken place in two apartments in North Vancouver over the past few weeks.

According to North Vancouver RCMP, the apartments were accessed by someone scaling construction scaffolding outside of the apartment buildings and entering through open patio doors.

Cpl. Richard De Jong told the Georgia Straight by phone that the robberies took place on August 5 and 15, and each incident occurred between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Cpl. De Jong explained that in one case, a resident at home awoke around 1 a.m. to hear someone rummaging in the apartment, and witnessed a man leaving the apartment after taking out the contents of her purse.

In each of the cases, wallets and purses were stolen from in second- and third-floor apartments. The number of individuals involved in the thefts or the relation between the two cases has not been confirmed yet.

Police are reminding residents to ensure that windows and doors are secured or locked in place, even if left open to allow for air circulation during warm weather.

Anyone who witnesses any suspicious individuals or incidents is asked to call North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
