A series of traffic collisions in Surrey this week have resulted in the deaths of two men, and also required rescue efforts after a child was trapped by a truck crashing into a house.

The two fatal collisions involved motorcycles—just as a third motorcycle accident took place in Vancouver this week as well.

At 7:55 p.m. on August 16, RCMP received a call about a motorcycle that hit the centre median in the eastbound lanes of Highway 10 in the 16000 block.

A 23-year-old motorcyclist was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is investigating the cause of the accident.

Prior to that, at 3:54 p.m. on August 14, an eastbound motorcycle and a westbound pickup truck collided at the intersection of 64th Avenue and 168th Street in Surrey.

A man was taken to hospital in serious condition. Today (August 17), RCMP confirmed that he died of his injuries.

One day after that incident, in Vancouver around 6:15 a.m. on August 15, a 54-year-old male motorcyclist from Burnaby died in a collision with an SUV in Kitsilano.

On the same day, two vehicle crashes involving trucks occurred in Surrey.

Around 9 a.m. on August 15, an eastbound commercial truck and a westbound passenger car collided at 16th Avenue near 182nd Street in Surrey.

The commercial truck driver had minor injuries and remained on scene but the driver of the car was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Then at 9:28 p.m. on August 15, RCMP received a call about a truck that had crashed into the basement of a house in the 9000 block of Alexandria Crescent.

A four-month-old child was injured and received hospital treatment.

According to Surrey Now-Leader, the child was trapped beneath the truck but was rescued by firefighters who used chainsaws, sledgehammers, and Jaws of Life.

The 57-year-old driver was taken into custody.

Prior to this series of crashes, a fatal, multi-vehicle collision took place prior to 5 p.m. on August 11 in the Port Kells area of Surrey.

According to RCMP, when a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV heading northbound on 176th Street turned west on to 96th Avenue, it collided with a Volvo semi-tractor heading southbound on 176th Street.

A passenger in the SUV died at the scene and a second passenger died at the hospital.

The SUV driver and another passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Volvo driver sustained minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

RCMP stated in a news release that alcohol and speed were not believed to contributing factors.

Anyone who has information about any of these collisions are asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, for anonymous tips, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
