Costa Rica's southern coast hit by strong earthquake

      The southern coast of Costa Rica was shaken by a strong earthquake at 3:22 p.m. (PT) today (August 17).

      According to preliminary measurements by the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake measured 6.0-magnitude.

      The epicentre was located near the Panama border, about 19 kilometres (12 miles) north of Golfito, Costa Rica, and 55 kilometres (34 miles) west of Volcán, Panama, at a depth of 19 kilometres (12 miles).

      There were no immediate reports of damage.
