Offshore earthquake occurs northwest of Vancouver Island

      A light earthquake struck offshore northwest of the northern tip of Vancouver Island near Queen Charlotte Sound.

      A 4.6-magnitude earthquake occurred at 5:10 a.m. today (August 21) 357 kilometres (221 miles) northwest of Tofino and 384 kilometres (238 miles) south of Prince Rupert. The epicentre was located at a depth of 10 kilometres (6 miles).

      It was 538 kilometres (334 miles) northwest of Vancouver.

      According to Earthquakes Canada, there were no reports of damage and no tsunami is expected.
