After a Mercedes crashed in a residential neighbourhood in Surrey, police arrested one individual but are still on the search for a second suspect.

Around 6:15 p.m. on August 20, a Surrey police officer witnessed a black Mercedes sedan driving at high speed in the 6000 block of 128th Street.

When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver raced off.

Shortly thereafter, the Mercedes crashed into the garage of a residence in the 12700 block of 67A Avenue.

The building was extensively damaged and both the vehicle and structure caught on fire. No injuries were reported.

Bystanders reported witnessing two individuals fleeing from the vehicle. One adult male was arrested near the collision, with the assistance of police dog services.

However, police are still searching for the second suspect.

Any witnesses or anyone who has information about this incident is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, for those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is the second time within the past few weeks that a vehicle has crashed into a building in Surrey.

On August 15, a truck smashed into a house in the 9000 block of Alexandria Crescent. A four-month-old child trapped beneath the truck had to be rescued.
