The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has asked for the public's help in solving a murder in the Fraser Canyon.

Today, police disclosed the victim's identity as Amélie Christelle Sakkalis, a 28-year-old Belgian national who was travelling in Canada.

Her body was found around 7:45 p.m. on August 22 north of the unincorporated town of Boston Bar near Highway 1.

A man was arrested but later released.

Investigators believe that Sakkalis was hitchhiking from Penticton earlier that day and was headed toward Vancouver.

“IHIT would like to speak with anyone that provided Miss Sakkalis a ride between Penticton and Boston Bar on August 22, 2018,” IHIT Cpl. Frank Jang said in a news release.  “Amélie’s family has been notified of her murder and we urge anyone with information to come forward immediately to help provide answers.”

Police will speak to the media later this morning at the RMCP's B.C. headquarters in Surrey.

On August 24, the Mounties released images of this vehicle, which was found north of Boston Bar around the time of Sakkalis's murder.
