Vancouver police have credited the public for providing tips leading to the arrest of an arson suspect.

On August 21, a man was captured in surveillance video walking down the east lane of Nanaimo Street at Copley Street.

After he put his hands in a hedge, the shrubbery soon caught fire, destroying two garages with vehicles inside, as well as a utility pole.

All told, damages reached approximately $100,000, though no one was injured.

After video of the suspect was released to the public on September 6, tips started coming into the VPD.

Today, police announced that a 46-year-old Vancouver resident, Jason Acoose, is in custody and has been charged with two counts of arson to property.
