A sex-offender who disappeared from a Vancouver halfway house has been arrested.

While living at a Vancouver halfway house, James Allan Pike, a 46-year-old sex offender who was serving a longterm supervision order for a violent sexual assault in 2001, failed to return on September 11.

Consequently, Corrections Canada issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest on the same day.

Around 7:30 p.m. on September 13, a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officer saw Pike near Jervis and Nelson streets. Although Pike ran from officers, he was found shortly thereafter hiding in a parkade. With the help of a police dog, Pike was arrested.

Pike was treated at hospital for a dog bite and then taken to jail, and remains in custody.

In December 2011, theV PD issued a public warning that Pike would be living in Vancouver. Corrections Canada had assessed James Allan Pike as a high risk for re-offending violently and sexually, and posed a significant risk to the safety of adult females.

Another Canada-wide warrant has previously been issued for him in October 2012. At that time, after Pike had been released on parole in Prince George, he failed to report to a Vancouver facility, but he was located and arrested in Vancouver.
