The driver of a pickup truck with Oregon plates was apprehended after a police pursuit on the West Side of Vancouver.

According to a VPD news release, the man in his 20s first came to Surrey RCMP's attention when he drove across the border into Canada this morning without stopping.

He sped toward Vancouver, where he was spotted by city cops near West 16th Avenue and Oak Street.

When he refused to pull over, police chased him.

He was finally caught after he crashed into a Mazda sedan and then an empty retail store at West 10th Avenue and Alma Street.

The driver of the Mazda suffered minor injuries.

“The radio equipment used by first responders across the Lower Mainland allows them to talk to each other during emergencies," VPD Const. Jason Doucette said. "Efficient communication between agencies led to the swift arrest of this man who made unauthorized entry into Canada. Investigators are now working with our partnering agencies to determine who this man is and why he ran the border.”

The suspect remains in custody pending the laying of criminal charges by Crown counsel.
