A private French language school and cultural centre that has deep roots in Vancouver is planning to build a new home.

The Alliance Française of Vancouver has filed a rezoning application with the city to redevelop its current facility at 6161 Cambie Street.

The proposal involves a new three-storey educational and cultural facility with commercial space.

The school belongs to a worldwide network of Alliance Française schools present in 136 countries.

There are nine Alliance Française schools in Canada.

In Vancouver, Alliance Française has been active in promoting French language and culture since 1904.

The school’s location is on the west side of Cambie Street and south of West 45^th Avenue.

An open house regarding the rezoning application is scheduled on October 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alliance Française of Vancouver (6161 Cambie Street).
