An Oregon man who crashed into a store on Vancouver's West Side has been charged.

Around 8:20 a.m. on September 15, Surrey RCMP alerted the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) that a man driving a blue pickup truck with Oregon licence plates drove through the border without stopping, and was heading for Vancouver.

When Vancouver officers spotted the truck driving near West 16th Avenue and Oak Street, they attempted to pull over the vehicle with lights and sirens. As the driver did not stop, officers chased after him.

Prior to 8:30 a.m., the truck collided with a Mazda sedan on West 10th Avenue at Alma Street before crashing into Rufus Drum Shop, which was unoccupied at the time, near Point Grey and Kitsilano neighbourhoods.

The Mazda driver, a 32-year-old Vancouver man, received minor injuries.

The truck driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Oregon resident Colin Patrick Wilson, who is 21 years old, had been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a peace officer.

Wilson was scheduled to appear in Vancouver provincial court today (September 21).
