      A man involved in a carjacking and crime spree that took place across downtown Vancouver last week has been charged.

      On September 21, a man reported to police that a man peppersprayed him and then stole his car at a parking lot at Cambie and Pender streets.

      The suspect drove the car to West Georgia and Hamilton streets, and got into several collisions, including hitting a pedestrian, who was taken to hospital.

      A group of construction workers, who were also peppersprayed, held down the man until police arrived.

      Today (September 25), the Vancouver Police Department announced that 27-year-old Vancouver resident Jesse William Swain has been charged with several offences:

      • three counts of assault with a weapon;
      • robbery;
      • dangerous driving causing bodily harm;
      • failure to stop at an accident scene involving bodily harm;
      • failure to stop at an accident with a vehicle;
      • theft under $5000.

      Swain remains in custody.
