The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) announced today (September 28) that a Fraser Valley vice-principal has been arrested and faces two child pornography charges.

The APD's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit started an investigation in late July by executing a search warrant at the Abbotsford home of 38-year-old William A. Fraser Middle School vice-principal Michael Haire. His computer, data storage devices, and cellphones were seized.

The APD's Digital Forensic Lab is continuing to examine images but already thousands of images and videos depicting child pornography and child abuse have been found.

Haire has been charged with making available child pornography and possession of child pornography. Sgt. Judy Bird informed the Georgia Straight that he is currently in custody and will be released on conditions today.

William A. Fraser Middle School has about 700 students from grades 6 to 8.

Haire, who has no previous criminal record, has served as vice-principal at the school for three years and has been an employee of the Abbotsford School District for 12 years. Bob Voth has been named as acting vice-principal of the middle school.

ICE unit investigator Det. Keith Nugent stated in a news release that "this investigation is exceptionally concerning given Mr. Haire’s position of authority and access to youth in Abbotsford".

Investigators are seeking to speak with anyone who may have been victimized by or has information about Haire and are asking them to contact the APD ICE unit at 604-859-5225, text 222973 (abbypd), or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
