Rookie sensation Elias Pettersson recovering from what Canucks head coach calls a "dirty" hit in Florida
There's reason for optimism for Vancouver Canucks fans following a brutal hit on star centre Elias Petterson last night at the BT&T Centre in Sunrise, Florida.
The 19-year-old left the game after being slammed into the boards by defenceman Mike Matheson.
Today, he's reportedly feeling better.
The Canucks won the game 3-2 but nobody on the team took retribution for Matheson's hit, which occurred at 4:48 of the third period.
In a post-game scrum, head coach Travis Green described the bodycheck as "dirty".
The NHL department of player safety will hold a hearing with Matheson tomorrow.
According to an NHL news release, the Florida defenceman is "facing discipline for interference and unsportsmanlike conduct".
No penalty was called on the play, which occurred in front of a referee.
This season, Pettersson has five goals and three assists in five games.
