On the face of it, Wei Qiao Zhang seemed like an ideal Vision Vancouver council candidate in 2018.

A well-known Mandarin-language talk-show host, a constituency aide to popular NDP MP Don Davies, and fluent in four languages—English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and German—the former athlete seemed like he had a bright political future in Vancouver.

But the day before Vancouver voters went to the polls, Vision Vancouver cancelled its endorsement of Zhang for undisclosed reasons.

His official bio has been pulled from the party's website.

Zhang has been endorsed by the Vancouver and District Labour Council.

Below, you can see a video that the party circulated over Twitter after Zheng was nominated.

Vision's remaining four council candidates are incumbent Heather Deal, park commissioner Catherine Evans, social-justice activist Diego Cardona, and sustainable-transportation advocate Tanya Paz.

The party's mayoral candidate Ian Campbell withdrew from the race in September.
