      It's been a highly competitive election campaign in Delta to replace the outgoing mayor, Lois Jackson.

      Achieving for Delta mayoral candidate George Harvie has opened up an early lead with five of 33 polls reporting.

      Harvie has 41.44 percent, compared to 29.84 percent for former police chief Jim Cessford and 27.32 percent for Coun. Sylvia Bishop.

      Harvie is the former chief administrative officer for the Corporation of Delta.

      Jackson is running on his slate for council, and she's in second place in a race for six spots.

      Update

      With 14 of 33 polls reporting, Harvie has 37.23 percent of the votes. Close behind is Cessford with 34.32 percent, followed by Bishop with 25.56 percent.

      Jackson has fallen to fourth place in the race for six council seats. Leading this contest is Alicia Guichon, followed by Jeannie Kanakos, and Dan Copeland.

      Bruce McDonald is in fifth place, followed by Dylan Kruger.
