A rezoning application has been filed for a seniors’ care facility in Vancouver’s Killarney area.

The development is at a parcel that used to be the eastern end of the Corpus Christi church property.

The Catholic church previously offered the site for sale so it can build a new elementary school and parish hall.

The proposed Sunrise of East Vancouver facility will have 100 units.

The development is located across Clarendon Street to Shannon Oaks and Clarendon Court, which are both care facilities for seniors.

The proposed project by U.S.-based Sunrise Senior Living will cover a whole block between East 48th Avenue and Waverley Street.

There are two Sunrise Living facilities in the Lower Mainland. One is in Vancouver’s Marpole neighbourhood, and the other is North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley area.

The rezoning application for 2499 East 48th Avenue seeks to change the classification of the property from one-family dwelling to comprehensive development.

An open house will be held on November 29 at the Corpus Christi School (6344 Nanaimo Street) from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
