The public will get a chance to ask questions about the development of a new St. Paul’s Hospital and health-care campus in East Vancouver.

City of Vancouver staff and proponents of the project will be at hand to provide answers at a community open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday (November 20) at the Creekside Community Centre (1 Athletes Way).

The IBI Group has filed an application on behalf of Providence Health Care to rezone 1002 Station Street and 250-310 Prior Street from industrial to comprehensive development for a new hospital and health-care complex.

“Taken together, the proposed master plan for the Station Street site supports a new way of providing health care that is fully integrated with its surrounding neighbourhood,” according to the application.

The new facility will replace the St. Paul’s Hospital on Burrard Street in the West End.

The proposed hospital will occupy the north-central portion of the 7.5 hectare site near SkyTrain’s Main Street-Science World Station.

The new hospital is expected to be completed in 2024.

Four research and professional office buildings will be constructed south of the new hospital.

To the west will be commercial office and research space. A hotel and commercial property will be developed south of the office building.

“It is anticipated that the hotel will have suites suitable for longer stays, mostly by patients, those visiting hospital patients or by medical staff and researchers from other health-related facilities,” according to the application.

To the north is a commercial and residential building that will be “available for rent by hospital staff, physicians, researchers, students and other related workforce”. The residential component will be “regulated through a covenant with the City of Vancouver”.

The south parcel of the site will have a building for office use to “further support the hospital and health care campus”.

Public amenities include two child care facilities.

Building heights in the proposed hospital complex will be up to 203 feet.
