Otter gobbling up koi in Vancouver Chinatown garden pond

Chinatown's reputation for appetizing eats may have made its way into the animal kingdom as an unexpected guest has taken up residence in the neighbourhood for an unfortunate feast.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden issued a statement on November 19 that a river otter was spotted in a pond shared by the garden and the neighbouring public park. Garden staff stated that it had eaten five of their adult koi fish.

The Vancouver Park Board is working today (November 20) to capture and relocate the otter to Stanley Park, and the Vancouver Aquarium is also providing support.

An investigation has been launched to determine how the otter got into the pond.

The garden is asking the public not to feed the otter and not to release wildlife into the pond.
