A female senior sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the Fairview neighbourhood.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), investigators believe that prior to 1 p.m. on November 19, a southbound white minivan hit an 80-year-old pedestrian as she was crossing Oak Street at West 8th Avenue on an unmarked crosswalk. She was rushed to hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, who believe sunglare may have contributed to the collision.

Anyone who has dashcam footage or witnessed this collision is asked to contact the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.

In other recent vehicle collisions with pedestrians, an 83-year-old woman who was crossing East 30th Street at Main Street was struck by a pick-up truck on November 7. She later died in hospital.

Prior to that accident, an 80-year-old male pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle at Southeast Marine Drive and Victoria Drive on November 2 died one week later.

His death, the seventh pedestrian fatality in the city this year, followed another pedestrian death on Southeast Marine Drive when a vehicle collided with a 35-year-old Vancouver man near Ross Street on October 18.
