Within the span of a week, a second assault has occurred in the Davie Village area.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on November 21, Vancouver police received a 911 call from a man who said he had been assaulted in an altercation near the Davie and Burrard street intersection.

Officers located the 36-year-old male victim from Vancouver and he was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Although the assault took place in an area traditionally known for its concentration of LGBT–related businesses and where gaybashings have taken place in the past, Cst. Jason Doucette told the Georgia Straight by phone that there is no indication that the assault was a hate crime. He stated that there is one person suspected of committing the assault but investgators are still working to determine how many people were involved in total.

He added that they are still trying to determine the manner of the assault but confirmed that the victim was not shot or stabbed.

Anyone who witnessed a disturbance in the area around 3 a.m. is asked to contact the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The incident follows a few days after another assault in the West End just before 3 a.m. on November 17 when a man followed a woman into her apartment on Bute Street near Pendrell Street. Investigators believe the attack was sexually motivated.

On November 20, the VPD announced that a 34-year-old man was arrested in relation to the assault but police have not released his name.

Cst. Jason Doucette stated that there is no connection between the two incidents.
