The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has announced that a man is in custody in connection with the death of a Vancouver school board employee.

Jan Poepl, 31, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Nicole Hasselmann.

The 34-year-old special education assistant worked at Templeton secondary.

She was taken to hospital and didn't survive after her 2017 Kia Sorento SUV crashed in the 8000 block of the Barnet Highway on November 16.

A man was found injured in the vehicle.

IHIT said shortly afterward that Hasselman's injuries were "indicative of foul play".

Police have not revealed if Poepl was the man in the Kia.

Hasselman was also known as Nicole Porciello and lived in Burnaby.
