It's usually firefighters or B.C. conservation officers—not the Mounties—who have to deal with live creatures in trees.

But last night, the Surrey RCMP found themselves negotiating with a man who found refuge five metres above the ground to evade being questioned.

It occurred after police were called to a domestic dispute at 76 Avenue and Hurdle Cresscent.

Insp. Dale Carr says in the video below that officers went in pursuit of a man, who fled the scene. He jumped on top of a roof of a nearby home.

Then he started climbing up the tree, where he stayed for at least a couple of hours.

Insp. Dale Carr said last night that the man was in a tree for a couple of hours as police were negotiating with him to come down.
