A new East Vancouver off-leash area for dogs has been greenlit.

The Vancouver Park Board announced today (December 18) that it has approved a new off-leash area at Pandora Park in the Cedar Cove residential area of the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood.

The new space, which covers a quarter of a hectare at the 1.7-hectare park, will open next year in the northwest area of the park.

The park is bounded by Templeton Drive, Nanaimo Street, Pandora Street, and Franklin Street.

The space includes a looped path, drinking water, shade trees, and seating areas.

So far, a total of four new off-leash areas in Vancouver parks have been approved by the park board.

One at Sunset Park received upgrades in August while another at Renfrew Community Park opened in October. Meanwhile, a pilot off-leash space at Burrard View Park will be made permanent next year and a pilot project will begin with morning hours at George Wainborn Park.

There are currently 37 off-leash areas in Vancouver.
