RCMP investigating assault upon female pedestrian by male stranger in Surrey

      Surrey RCMP's Special Victims Unit is seeking the public's assistance in an investigation into an assault by a stranger that took place in the Newton area of Surrey.

      Around 5:30 a.m. on January 3, Surrey RCMP responded to a report about an assault that took place in the 12500 block of 72 Avenue.

      A female pedestrian in her 20s was walking along 72 Avenue when someone grabbed her from behind with a bearhug.

      When she screamed, the suspect covered the mouth with her hand. However, the woman bit the suspect's hand, managed to free herself from his grip, and fled.

      The suspect is described as a male with a beard and medium build who is about 150 centimetres (five feet) tall.

      Anyone who was in the area at the time or who has information about this incident is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
