Three-hour crime spree in Chilliwack ends after male suspect apprehended, with help of police dog
A three-hour crime spree in Chilliwack was brought to an end after a suspect was apprehended.
In the early evening on January 8, Chilliwack RCMP received a call about a theft of a red SUV in the parking lot of a medical facility in the 45000 blcok of Menholm Road.
As police began searching for the vehicle, additional complaints linked the suspect to purse-theft attempts in parking lots in the 8100 block of Young Road, as well as a break-and-enter in the 46000 block of Sylvan Drive.
One victim who was injured during one of the thefts was taken to hospital but later released.
After 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Prest Road near the Trans Canada Highway, where the abandoned stolen car was located.
With the help of a police dog from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service, officers tracked down a suspect in the surrounding fields and took him into custody.
Chilliwack’s Thomas Edward Borecky, 50, is charged with theft of motor vehicle, assault causing bodily harm, break-and-enter to commit offence, two counts of robbery, and two counts of possession of stolen property.
Borecky remains in custody pending a court date this month.
