Police arrest man for 2017 murder in South Vancouver

      The Vancouver Police Department announced today (January 16) that an arrest has been made in a homicide case almost two years after the murder took place in South Vancouver.

      After midnight on February 9, 2017, Vancouver police received a report of an injured man at a home near Prince Albert Street and East 49th Avenue.

      Although 38-year-old Vancouver resident Maninder Singh Braich was taken to hospital, he died shortly thereafter. He was the city's third homicide victim of 2017.

      Detectives identified 56-year-old Surjit Toor in connection the homicide. He was arrested and remains in custody.

      On January 15, a second-degree murder charge against Toor was approved.
