The president of the American Conservative Union has predicted that special counsel Robert Mueller will be fired.

Matt Schlapp, a Trump loyalist, made the claim over Twitter today after the U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of William Barr as attorney general.

Schlapp's wife is director of strategic communications in the Trump White House.

He's a lobbyist, Fox News commentator, and former vice president of public affairs at Koch Companies Public Sector, LLC.

Barr said during his confirmation hearing that he didn't believe that Mueller is engaged in a witch hunt.

"President Trump has sought no assurances, promises, or commitments from me of any kind, either express or implied, and I have not given him any, other than that I would run the department with professionalism and integrity," Barr declared.

He also said that regulations require that Mueller submit a confidential report to the Justice Department and it's up to the attorney general to decide what should be made public.

Mueller was director of the FBI before being appointed to investigate Russian government efforts to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

He's issued dozens of indictments and obtained convictions against major figures associated with Trump, including his lawyer, Michael Cohen, and his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort.
