Violent sex offender Joseph Davis was following media accounts of his decision not to return to a Vancouver halfway house on February 11.

And he was aware that police knew he might be driving a Mercedes SUV.

Vancouver police disclosed this information in announcing that the 47-year-old career criminal was arrested in Quebec early this morning.

Davis was behind the wheel of the Mercedes when he was taken into custody.

It's the second time that Davis had fled a Vancouver halfway house in a Mercedes.

In 2017, he was arrested in Saskatchewan after failing to abide by the conditions of his community-supervision order.

Davis was convicted in 2012 of sexually assaulting a real-estate agent after inviting her to his home. He used a false name at the time.

In 2001, Davis was convicted of assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement against a sex worker.
