Friends are rallying in Metro Vancouver to help a Surrey couple victimized in an incomprehensible assault.

Tom Vo and Tammy Nguyen were sprayed with acid while on holidays in Vietnam, according to Nguyen's Facebook page.

She wrote that they were approached by two men on a motorbike on February 9 as they were celebrating Lunar New Year.

About 90 percent of Vo's face, as well as his arms and legs, were burned. Nguyen revealed that he currently has only 15 to 20 percent vision.

Vo was also knifed three times on his legs.

"For myself, I have minor injuries, burns on both thighs, one hand and some on the left side of my face," Nguyen wrote.

They've been airlifted from the Vietnamese city of Da Nang to a hospital in Bangkok, Thailand.

Friends of the couple have created a GoFundMe page, which has raised nearly $12,000 (as of this writing) toward its $40,000 goal.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help offset medical expenses for Tom Vo (above) and Tammy Nguyen.

It's unclear whether this was a targeted or random attack.

"Tammy contacted her travel insurance agency and they have been a huge help with providing them with the medical attention that they need," wrote Cecilia Tran, who helped create the page. "Although they did purchase travel insurance, there is only so much that is covered. All the donations made will be going towards expenses that will not be covered by their insurance and for their road to recovery."
