Delta police officer and female assault victim each in serious condition following stabbing outside Catholic school

      Some elementary school kids were on lockdown this afternoon in North Delta as a result of a violent incident as classes were ending for the day.

      An off-duty Delta police officer witnessed an assault between a man and a woman outside Immaculate Conception on 119th Street.

      The officer intervened, only to be stabbed by a male assailant who also stabbed the woman.

      The officer and the women are both in serious condition in hospital.

      When police converged on the school, the suspect was arrested. He's now in custody.

      Immaculate Conception opened in 1959 and is at 8840–119th Street in Delta.

      Afterward, parents were instructed to pick up their kids at the Desi Junction parking lot at 88th Avenue and 120th Street in North Delta.

      No names have been released.

      Police chiefs in Vancouver and Abbotsford have each tweeted their support for the Delta Police Department.
