Australian woman killed by avalanche in closed area at Whistler Blackcomb resort

      There's been another deadly avalanche on the south coast of B.C.

      A 42-year-old woman from Australia and a 36-year-old man were snowboarding in a closed area near Lakeside Bowl on Blackcomb Mountain when the tragedy ocurred on Thursday (Februrary 21).

      According to Vail Resorts, the snowboarding triggered an avalanche.

      The man survived but the woman was pronounced dead in hospital.

      No names have been released.

      On February 18, a 39-year-old Surrey man, Remi Michalowski, died in an avalanche in the Mount Seymour area.

      His body was recovered on February 20.

      Michalowski's hiking partner survived by attaching himself to a tree when the snow came roaring into the area.
