Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning today (February 22) for Metro Vancouver—including Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Surrey, Langley, Delta, Richmond, West Vancouver, and North Vancouver—as well as the Fraser Valley, including Chilliwack, Hope, and Abbotsford.

A frontal system is expected to continue contributing to snowfall across the Lower Mainland, with snow accumulations of five to 10 centimetres (two to four inches) in areas such as the North Shore and higher terrains in northeastern Metro Vancouver.

However, the snow is mixed with rain near water areas and lower terrains, and is anticipated to transition into either rain showers or flurries in the afternoon.

As the weather is affecting transit routes with delays or detours, transit users are advised to check the TransLink website or Twitter account for alerts

Meanwhile, Avalanche Canada has issued a warning for B.C. backcountry users in B.C.'s south coast region and Vancouver Island that will remain in effect until Sunday (February 24) due to unstable snow conditions.
