      For planning travel routes around Vancouver, commuters may want to factor in the following list of upcoming roadwork projects that are taking place or will begin in the next few months.

      This year’s projects, with several occuring during April and May, will focus more on north-south routes, to counterbalance last year’s east-west projects.

      The projects will include:

      • Nanaimo Street: sewer upgrades between McGill Street and 4th Avenue, which began in February and continue until spring 2020;
      • Granville Bridge: structural and seismic upgrades, which began in autumn 2018 and will continue until 2021;
      • Quebec Street and 2nd Avenue: pedestrian and cycling improvements on Quebec Street from 1st to 3rd Avenue and 2nd Avenue from Main to Ontario streets, which will begin in March and continue until 2020;
      • Haro and Bute streets: water main replacement and safety improvements starting at Robson Street between Chilco and Gilford streets and to progress eastward, which will continue to late summer 2020;
      • Boundary Road: water main replacement with street and sidewalk improvements, starting at East 1st Avenue to Grandview Highway, to continue to winter 2020;
      • MacDonald Street: sewer separation and street rehabilitation to take place from 1st to 16th avenues, in addition to TransLink trolley wire reallocation, to continue to spring 2020.

      In total, the upgrades will cover 16 kilometres of streets, nine kilometres of water mains, and four kilometres of sewer mains.
