A 30-year-old Abbotsford resident is in custody as part of a crackdown on gang activities in Metro Vancouver.

Pashminder Boparai was the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant.

According to a Vancouver police news release, he was apprehended in the Kelowna area.

“We would like to thank the public for tips and acknowledge the Kelowna RCMP for their assistance. They were instrumental in helping capture Mr. Bopari,” VPD Sgt. Jason Robillard said in the news release. “We’ll continue to work collaboratively  with our partnering agencies to combat gang violence that affects our communities.”

The VPD created Taskforcce Tourniquet in 2017 to target gangs. It's since been joined by officers from several other law-enforcement agencies, including the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C.

In the meantime, police are urging another suspect, 22-year-old Moeen Khan of Surrey, to turn himself into authorities.
