The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has announced the discovery of a dead sea lion, apparently shot in the head, near the Strait of Georgia roe-herring fishery underway now in the vicinity of Hornby and Denman islands.

In a release dated March 20, Sea Shepherd captain Locky Maclean stated that the sea lion washed up on Hornby Island on March 19 and its death "leaves no doubt as to the abuse of pinnipeds our crew has been observing on the water".

Maclean, who lives on Hornby Island, is director of ship operations and campaigns at Sea Shepherd.
