Local homicide investigators have taken over a case of three people killed in a collision in South Surrey yesterday.

Around 10:30 a.m. on March 26, Surrey RCMP received reports of a single-vehicle collision on the 32nd Avenue Diversion under the Highway 99 overpass.

Emergency responders found three people in the vehicle who had all died.

As the deaths have been deemed "suspicious", the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now working with the B.C. Coroners Service on the investigation.

Investigators are collecting evidence at a residence in the 14900 block of 35th Avenue, which is located near the collision scene and is believed to be connected to the investigation.

IHIT identified the three victims as a mother and her two sons.

IHIT Cpl. Frank Jang stated in a news release that their names are not being released “as it will not further the investigation at this time”.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551- IHIT (4448), or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

In a separate collision that took place one day before, a BMW collided with a Dodge Charger on Mariner Way in Coquitlam on March 25. The impact sent the BMW onto a traffic island where five children were standing. A 6-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries while a 13-year-old girl died.
