A youth soccer match ended in pandemonium yesterday at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey.

It was caused by the sight of a man with a gun—though in the end, it turned out to be an imitation firearm.

It sent parents and kids fleeing for their safety just before 2 p.m.

Police say a person has been taken into custody.

The incident occurred at the One-of-a-Kind Tournament Experience, which is sponsored by the Vancouver Whitecaps and Adidas. It's held for girls and boys born between 2007 and 2010.

VPD educated public about active shooters

Fortunately, the incident in Surrey didn't involve a real gun.

But mass shootings occur on a seemingly regular basis in North America, particularly in the United States.

To educate the public about how to respond in one of these deadly situations, the Vancouver Police Department prepared a video.

It was posted on YouTube last year. You can see it below.
