Police arrest suspect in connection with fire and incendiary devices on Langara College campus

Officers are expected to continue scouring the area into the night—and classes are cancelled at the main campus on Tuesday (April 2)

      After a frightening day for students and staff at a Vancouver postsecondary institution, a suspect is now in custody.

      Transit Police arrested man in Surrey around 4 p.m. in connection with a fire and incendiary devices at Langara College.

      He's in his 20s and his name has not been released. He's now being held by Vancouver police.

      The school was evacuated around noon as firefighters and heavily armed Vancouver police entered the T building on campus.

      During a subsequent search, members of the emergency response team found several suspicious devices, according to a VPD news release.

      Officers are expected to continue scouring the area into the night.

      Langara College has closed all classes at the main campus on Tuesday (April 2). 

      Clinical practica are continuing, however, for nursing students. Their clinical instructors will be on-site at various locations, including hospitals.

      Update (April 2): The Vancouver Police Department announced that a 23-year-old male is facing two charges in relation to the fires at Langara College.
