A dangerous incident involving a car driving the wrong way on a Lower Mainland highway has ended in collisions and injuries.

Just after 3 p.m. on April 16, Surrey RCMP officers observed a Hyundai Accent driving southbound from 104 Avenue in the northbound lanes of Highway 17.

The vehicle hit a transport truck that was merging onto Highway 17 from the Highway 1 off-ramp.

After that, the vehicle continued onward into oncoming traffic and entered the Highway 1 off-ramp before colliding with a Toyota Camary, which brought it to a halt.

Both drivers of the Hyundai and the Toyota were taken to hospital with injuries.

The Hyundai driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries while the transport truck driver remained uninjured.

Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact Surrey RCMP, which is in the early stage of its investigation.

Meanwhile in a separate collision the following day, a driver was seriously injured after crashing into two parked vehicles in East Vancouver on April 17.
