Update (April 29): The B.C. SPCA announced on April 29 that the individual responsible for the deaths of two kittens has been identified. Although the B.C. SPCA cannot share any further details, charges are being recommended to Crown counsel. Anyone convicted of abandoning an animal faces a maximum fine of $75,000 and up to two years in jail.

      Original article (April 24):

The B.C. SPCA is appealing to the public for further information in an investigation into how two kittens wound up abandoned in a Dumpster in Vancouver's West End.

On April 19, a passerby heard sounds from a dumpster located in a secured parking area at 1040 Pacific Street and alerted the B.C. SPCA. In the Dumpster, two newborn kittens were discovered inside a plastic bag. The bag, ironically, had the words “Love You” on it.

The one-day-old kittens were suffering from hypothermia and dehydration. Although they were taken to an emergency clinic, both have since died.

B.C. SPCA senior protection officer Eileen Drever stated in a news release that abandoning an animal is against the law and individuals can be prosecuted for their crime.

Anyone who has information about this case is asked to contact B.C. SPCA at 1-855-622-7722.
