Delta police seize BB gun from two men on bus

The Delta Police Department (DPD) has issued a reminder to citizens regarding concerns about displaying replica guns in public after an incident involving one.

Last week, the DPD received reports about citizens witnessing two men with a gun at a Tsawwassen bus stop on May 7.

Officers intercepted the men as they were leaving a bus in Ladner near Harvest Drive and Ladner Trunk Road.

One of the men told police that he had just purchased a Glock-style BB gun and showed officers his receipt for it.

“Unfortunately this pistol is nearly identical to a police service weapon,” DPD spokesperson Cris Leykauf stated in a news release. “It’s not surprising that inspecting it or displaying the gun in public would be quite alarming.”

Leykauf added all reports of individuals with guns are taken seriously by police, and in this case, after officers “unsuccessfully attempted to explain why displaying the replica gun would be alarming to the public”, they seized the BB gun.

      The case remains under investigation.
