Update (2:44 p.m.): Ridge Meadows RCMP announced that Lougheed Highway has been reopened in both directions.

A head-on collision between two vehicles in Maple Ridge this morning has left one driver dead and others hospitalized with injuries.

Around 9:18 a.m. today (May 14), Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision that took place between an Infiniti car and a Dodge pickup truck in the 27200 block of Lougheed Highway at Spillsbury Street (west of 263rd Avenue).

Preliminary evidence from the crash scene and witness accounts indicates that it was a head-on collision.

The Infinity driver, who was heading westbound, allegedly crossed the center line and collided with the oncoming Dodge pickup truck, which was traveling eastbound.

The driver of the Infinity did not survive and the passenger in the car was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The truck driver was also taken to hospital.

Both lanes of the highway were closed as the investigation continues on.
