Lock, layer, label: North Shore RCMP tips to prevent bike theft

The weather is warming up, and bike season is underway.

There will also be a lot of opportunities for bike thieves to strike.

With that in mind, the North Shore RCMP suggest three easy ways to make bikes less appealing targets:

      Lock: Lock your bike always.

Layer: Layer your locks. “Make a game out of seeing how many layers you can create,” according to the RCMP. Some examples include removing your front wheel and locking it together with your frame to something solid. Or locking your rear wheel with a separate lock. Another way is to remove the seat and take it with you.

Label: Label major components with your contact information or record the serial number.
