Surrey RCMP arrested a known offender, who was discovered to be carrying a loaded firearm, after a truck was stolen from Vancouver last week.

Surrey RCMP announced today (June 3) that on May 28, investigators located a Ford F150 pick-up truck, which matched the description of a truck stolen in Vancouver on May 27, at a residence in the 14000 block of 106 Avenue in Surrey. The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen after confirmation of the license plate.

After officers observed a male suspect entering the truck and driving away, they arrested him when he parked in the 12200 block of Industrial Road.

The driver, 33-year-old Benjamin James Gilleland of Surrey, was found in possession of a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition.

He faces several charges, including three firearms-related charges, two charges for possession of stolen property, and six charges of breaching probation or recognizance orders.

Gilleland remains in custody and the investigation is continuing on.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Surrey RCMP or Crimestoppers.
